Washington Library Information
Hello! My name is Taylor Decker and I am the Librarian here at Washington Elementary School! I look forward to getting to know your kids throughout the school year and to help them find books that they will love and that will help them grow, learn and that will hopefully stay with them as they grow up. You may contact me through my email firstname.lastname@example.org
A note for students and parents regarding the library for the school year 2020-2021:
As a librarian, I want my library space to be as safe for our students as possible so they can have the best experience here that they can. As safety precaution this year, we will be running the library a bit different from past years.
In addition to adding EPIC to our arsenal of books available to our students, I will also be doing the checkout of physical copies of books differently this year.
The teachers will sign up with me a time slot in which will be their library time. During this time, the students will log onto Destiny Discover with their login information and will put a hold on one or two books that they wish to read. Once this is done, I will pull the desired books off the shelves myself, take them down to the classroom, and deliver the books to the students in the classroom, as opposed to the students physically coming down to the library, as we wish to keep the movement of students to a minimum to reduce the spread. At the same time, I will collect the books that the students have finished and will take them back to the library. This will be done to help limit the spread of the virus to any additional surfaces in the library, thus making the library and by default the books, as safe for the students to read as possible.
In addition to this, the books will be staying here at the school and will not be going home with students, to reduce the risk of the virus being spread to our student’s families.
Once the books come back to me, I will be thoroughly disinfecting the covers, spines, even pages of the books, after which point said books will be put away in quarantine for a period of 2 – 3 days, since research suggests that the virus can only survive on surfaces for 2-3 days and on paper/cardboard for 24 hours. On the 4th day, I will disinfect the books once more as a precaution before putting the books back into circulation.
I will be doing everything I can to ensure that the students can have a safe environment in which to read.
I truly believe that discovering new worlds, adventures, friends, and having exciting experiences through reading helps to not only teach our children things they need to know, but also provides an opportunity to discover something that they will love for the rest of their lives, discover a hobby or a passion they will be able to find joy in, or even find a light which they can use to shape a better future for themselves and others, and I wish for this to be done in the safest environment I am able to provide for them.
If you or your students have any concerns or questions about anything regarding the library or its procedures, please feel free to give me a call at 928-289-8616!
